M42 Mount

The M42 screw mount — 42mm diameter, 1mm pitch — was the closest thing to a universal SLR standard, used by Pentax, Praktica, Zeiss Jena, Chinon, Mamiya, and dozens of others from the 1949 Contax S onward. Its long flange distance and simple threads make M42 glass adaptable to almost any modern mirrorless body, which is why these lenses remain among the most widely used vintage optics today.
