Shinkodo opens in postwar Tokyo
Zenzaburo Yoshino opened the Shinkodo camera shop in Kanda, Tokyo, in 1946 and established Shinkodo Works in Itabashi the following year. The workshop made cigarette cases, powder compacts, and other precision metal goods. That profitable craft business supplied money, tools, and skilled hands for Yoshino's larger ambition: a camera of his own.
