First Retina I with a full-length chrome top plate; film-type reminder dial below the rewind knob; depth-of-field markings moved onto the shutter body. Lens options sourced: Schneider Retina-Xenar 50mm f/3.5 and f/2.8, Kodak Ektar. PRODUCTION END IS UNCONSTRAINED, not open: three sources give three different ends - 1951 (retinarescue), 1950 (camerapedia), 1954 (a Kodak Museum object record). The museum record is the outlier and it carries a demonstrable error of its own, stating the camera was 'manufactured in Dresden' while its own maker field says Kodak AG; every other source says Stuttgart. The start, 1949, is agreed. Dimensions 120 x 82 x 84 mm deployed from one museum specimen; weight NOT SOURCED. DATING: Kodak AG published no serial-to-year table, and the collector lists that exist map serial to MODEL with OVERLAPPING ranges - Retina Ia (015) and IIa (016) share two bands character-for-character, as do Retina I (013) and II (014), and a 50001-ish low block recurs across Types 018, 019/2, 028 and 029. A serial-only lookup is not merely imprecise, it is actively wrong. Where the fitted lens is Schneider-built, the LENS is datable from Schneider's own 63 published serial bands, already loaded; Rodenstock publishes none.
