Everything in this note was retrieved afterwards by bounded verbatim request against the named source and confirmed by a second differently-worded read. Where a fact could not be retrieved it is marked NOT SOURCED rather than replaced with a better guess. THE IMPROVED No. 3, RESTORED 2026-09-03 - this row should have existed since slice 9c and did not, because a fabricated argument folded it into its predecessor. TWO DIMENSIONS separate it, the same two that split the No. 4 and No. 5. FIRST, THE BED EXTENSION AND ITS GEARED DRIVE, absent from the 1900 No. 3 block and present from 1901. Kodak, 1904: 'An extra extension to bellows, operated by means of rack and pinion, permits the photographing of objects at a distance of only 18 inches from the lens, and also permits of the advantageous use of tele-photo attachment when plates are used.' (An earlier note quoted this sentence with its final clause dropped; it is restored here.) SECOND, THE FRONT BOARD. Kodak, 1904: 'have aluminum leather covered front boards of great strength, but which are nevertheless light, and are very neat in appearance.' The 1901, 1903 and 1904 catalogues also all carry Kodak's own assertion of a generational change: 'with the increased use of aluminum in the new models these instruments are even stronger than were the earlier designs.' KODAK PRINTED NO 'IMPROVED' IN ANY HEADING and never listed two versions of one number at once - the successor simply replaced its predecessor on the page - so the descriptor in this row's name is a catalogue label, not a Kodak product name.
